Hilton Head Island, SC

Spontaneous? Maybe :) We did indeed decide to take a trip to Hilton Head Island last minute, and I am sure glad we did! Even though it is January, the weather was in the high 60's (it may have hit 70 on Sunday) and we were able to enjoy the beautiful sandy beach. Addisyn was even brave enough to dip her toes into the ice cold ocean waves! We spent several hours on the beach chasing seagulls, building sandcastles (or sand mountains), collecting sea shells (and observing the live sand dollars that continuously washed onto shore and then disappeared into the sand), and walking the shore line. We also took advantage of the resort's indoor swimming pool :) We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Resort (a very beautiful resort), featuring a huge indoor fitness center, indoor/outdoor swimming pools, 3 restaurants, on-site childcare (which we learned is only offered in the summer), and tons of other amenities. Here are some pictures from our trip...

We visited the Coastal Discovery Museum (free with our Schiele Museum membership- we get into 200+ museums in the US and several in Canada)...

We also went to an awesome placed called "Island Playground" where Addisyn burned off her energy before we got in the car to go home...







All in all it was a great vacation! Addisyn is so curious about nature and is ready to explore anything you put in front of her. She enjoyed the texture of the sand, splashing the cold sea water, chasing the seagulls, and everything else! When she woke up from her nap she immediately climbed off the bed and went to the door- she was ready to go go go!

I would definitely recommend Hilton Head Island. There are a lot of child-friendly things to do there. If it is raining you can visit the "Island Playground" or another neat placed called "The Sandcastle"- both offer exploration and play for children under the age of 12 (and both have special toddler areas so the little ones don't get mowed down by the big ones). There are also Tanger Outlets in Hilton Head :) We didn't get to shop this time, but maybe next time if we stay longer!

18 Month Well-Baby Checkup

Addisyn had her 18 month well-baby check up today. She is 24.6 pounds (50th percentile), 32 1/2 inches tall (75th percentile), and her head circumference is in the 50th percentile. We will post again after our trip to Hilton Head Island where we will be staying at the Crowne Plaza Beach Resort :)

Our busy little bee :)

Addisyn certainly keeps us busy :) She loves to play! We moved her toy room downstairs because it seemed more practical, considering we spend the majority of our time downstairs. She loves having all the "new" toys lol. Today NC State's classes began for Brian (I am lucky mine do not begin until the 19th!) It is going to be a tough semester, but at least I am only taking 3 grad classes and not 4 again! We took our weekly trip to the museum today and found out that the museum is getting a new exhibit- "Pirates". The 2009 exhibit "Oceans" is in the process of being removed, so the new exhibit (which will have live monkeys) will not be open until May. Anyways, here are some pictures from the past week or so...

Spaghetti Dinners are the best! We put one of Brian's old shirts on Addisyn and just let her have at it! Addisyn has also chosen a new favorite sippy cup- she wants nothing to do with the soft nipple sippy cups- she wanted a real one!...

Happy New Year 2010!!!

It is hard to believe it is 2010! 2009 passed by quickly- as the years seem to be doing :) Brian and I will celebrate our 6 year wedding anniversary in June (it doesn't seem like we have been married that long). Anyways, we have been plagued by sickness once again (this makes the 6th time since October). Addisyn and I both have the sinus pressure, stuff in the lungs, popping ears kind of deal (no fun!). I have fared better than she because I have not thrown up! To say the least, we spent New Year's Eve at home and pretty much slept through the New Year- but the neighbors did wake us up with some fireworks :) On New Year's Day we headed to Cherryville to visit Linda (Brian's mom) and siblings Katie and Ben. The Robertsons were in town so we got to visit with them as well :) We headed off to see the Cherryville Shooters (I never knew such a red neck event still existed lol). These guys get drunk and drive around town (with a police escort) and fire their guns (packed with black powder) over people's houses for like 18 hours (traditionally to ward of evil spirits). They drive around in U-Haul trucks with the back open and their couches and beds inside (and of course the U-Haul is sporting the rebel flag). What a sight! Anyways, on Saturday we had dinner at Dave's and I got to meet Dave's brother Robby (which of course is Brian's uncle). Here are some pics of our eventful holiday :)

I should have mentioned that the "grand finale" is at the football stadium. Here come a bunch of drunk people to shoot their guns. The one guy even said "After I shoot my gun I am going to go right over there and take a piss"- yeah, my thoughts exactly!
