Busy Sunday!

Whew! Today was a busy day. Being a Sunday we started the day off with church. Dickie Spargo's sermon was titled "Life is too short to hold a grudge!" and it was definitely one worth listening to. After church we went to the Food Lion on New Hope Rd. where everything is 30% off because the store is moving. At 2:00pm Lindy went to Laura's (her cousin) baby shower. Laura's shower was a lot of fun and very pink! She is expecting a baby girl near the middle of October. Afterwards we both went to work! Anyways, we will post again soon! Discovery Place: Body Worlds

On Saturday we went with Brian's Dad, Katie, and Ben to the Discovery Place to see the "Body Worlds" exhibit....it was awesome! The exhibit consists of hundreds of real bodies that have been plasticized and put onto display in different ways. Some show the skeletal structure, the muscles, veins and arteries, organs, and even fetuses. There was one body that was cut straight down the middle so you can see what the inside of everything looks like! Discovery Place describes it as "the only anatomical exhibition that relies on the generosity of body donors" and "The exhibition features more than 200 authentic human specimens- including individual organs, transparent body slices and whole-body plastinates- that have been preserved through the remarkable process of Plastination." One More Fuzzy Addition

At the end of June a small orange tabby cat (he actually has orange swirls instead of stripes) showed up at our house (probably 6 weeks old). He was very skinny and scared. All summer we put food out for him so he could eat, but he had that "feral cat" thing going on for him and was absolutely terrified of humans. In August we started buying kitty treats and he would get closer and closer to us to get them. With much work he is officially a "lap cat." About 2 weeks ago he got brave and started rubbing on us and meowing at us. He has come a long way, but he is still terrified of unfamiliar people, loud people, and children. We decided if he is going to stick around he needed his shots and he would need to be neutered. After calling around to see what veterinary clinics would be willing to help out this stray kitten, we found out that there are many resources and generous clinics in the area. Dr. Lowry of Eastridge Animal Hospital gave him his first physical, a rabies shot, the FVRCP (a series of shots in one), ear mite treatment, flea treatment, dewormer, and a month's supply of prescription kitten food all for $27. Yes that is right, twenty seven dollars! (Thanks Dr. Lowry!) Dr. Lowry says the kitten is about 4 1/2 to 5 months old, and he weighs 4 pounds. Additionally, the Cabarrus Spay and Neuter Clinic is going to do his neuter for $35 at the beginning of October. Okay well those are all the technical details, now we feel it is important to note that we did not go looking for another cat! He found us, made himself at home, and never left! He (now called "Butterscotch") is going to remain an outside cat, but now with the added comfort of his new kitty bed (Fred's- the discount store- $3). There is much to be learned from this story. We had been talking about the future and babies, and look....the lord sent us a baby kitten. Forrest Gump sums this up in 2 sentences, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." :) Well, that is about all there is to this story! We will post again soon!

All work and no play?

It is true we do work a lot, whether it be at school or actually at work, but there are some days where you just want to have some fun! We purchased a $1 plastic/rubber child's bow and arrow set from the dollar store and decided to go hunting for our pets! It came as no surprise that we were just irritating them, but you have to have fun some how! At first the dog was barking at the arrows and running around like crazy, but for some reason when we started recording him he decided to stop having fun and hid under the bed (as you can see in the video). Anyways, we are looking forward to the first weekend in October, which is our fall break. We are going to the mountains with Kim and Justin. On October 20th we have our GRE practice test and then shortly after we have the actual GRE. We are both looking at several different graduate schools to go to. Lindy would like to pursue her Master's degree in either Gerontology or Special Education. Brian would like to pursue his Master's degree in either GIS or Transportation Planning. Graduate school is a good year away, so we have to worry about the present first :). Anyways, we will post again soon!

And the problem is... ...

Oh yes, the never ending battle with the Ford Ranger! If it is not one thing it is 10 things! Today Brian and Kyle replaced the clutch and all of it's components in Kyle's Ford Ranger. The truck used to say "Ranger" on the side, but ironically the "R" fell off and it now says "Anger." The "Anger Ranger" :) To add to the irony, when Brian shut the hood of the truck the Ford symbol flew off and hit him! Brian and Kyle dropped the transmission for the second time this week to fix, yet another thing. It is funny to see them poke their heads out from under the truck all covered in black dirt and oil. We ordered pizza so they could eat outside, and we must admit, Cramerton's Market Street Pizza is the best! Oh yes, a hometown special! Anyways, here are a few pictures from today's events.
