Babies, babies, babies and more

Well, Lindy's sister, Kristen, had her first OB appointment today. They gave her the due date of September 8th. How exciting! Kristen goes for her first ultrasound on January 29th! Lindy and Kristen went to Walmart and bought some matching baby Christmas clothes for next Christmas (of course, in different sizes, but Christmas clothes can go for either sex). On January 25th we are taking the Parent/Grandparent tour of CMC! We will take some pics if they let us. We love pictures! We are most excited about January 31st when we get to see our baby for the 2nd time and we get to learn the sex! Anyways, we are back at school and Lindy's hormones have been a little wacky. She through a fit in the school bookstore about the price of a textbook :), well there is actually more to it. Brian needed the book "Charlotte Temple" which is not actually a textbook, it is a tiny short novel. The suggested retail printed on the back of the book under the UPC said "$10.95" Now if we go to Books-A-Million they always sell their books like 20% off the suggested retail. Well at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on UNC Charlotte's campus things are not like this! Instead of paying the over-priced suggested retail of $10.95 the school is selling the book for $14! Lindy asked the manager why they were charging so much over the suggested retail price and the manager responded "Well we have to mark the prices up. It is our policy with the University". Lindy said "So you mark the books up 40%???!" This is ridiculous. Textbooks are over-priced before they add their "small" mark-up (sarcasm here). Well we ordered our books from half.com and as for "Charlotte Temple" we rented it for free from the library :) Now, we have discussed important pregnancy dates, hormone outrages on campus, now we should discuss being pregnant! Lindy is 4 months pregnant, not showing yet and has not gained any weight (this will probably change in another month). People ask "Are you really pregnant?" Well you do not have to look pregnant to feel pregnant :) The Motherhood store sells an awesome "sleep bra" for only $11.95 and it makes sleeping slightly more comfortable. Our favorite pregnancy book is Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs. It adds humor to what the pregnancy books have to say. Well we will write again after our hospital tour (and hopefully have a few pics).

It is 2008!

We spent New Year's Eve with Kristen and Justin after Brian got off of work. Kristen and Lindy toasted with Welch's Grape Juice since they are both preggers! Yay! We watched the ball drop in Time Square on TV and ate pizza. Cujo and Odie (Kristen and Justin's dogs) kept Brian company on the couch. Cujo was offering midnight kisses too :) Anyways, we go back to school on Wednesday to finish our last semester!! It is hard to believe we have been there for four years. Well we will post again soon!

Happy Holidays!

We had a wonderful Christmas! We spent Christmas Eve with Brian's family and Christmas Day with Lindy's family. Brian had a chance to hang out with his brother, Keith, who is in the AirForce, who was home for the holidays as well. We took a one day trip down to GA to visit Brian's Aunt/Uncle and it was a lot of fun. We don't see them as often as we would like, so we were glad we got to see them for that short period of time :)

We had our own little Christmas at home with our babies too. Bear was very excited about his new bed that his Grandma/pa bought him :) unfortunately, he had to share with Annabell:




Bear also opened a big dog bone: (which is now almost completely gone!)

Our Little Teddy Graham!

Today we saw our new OBGYN, Dr. Kelley Rouse. She is wonderful! She was very nice and the office is brand new and very up-to-date. The office staff were all very friendly and it was a great experience. She gave us a book called "Your Pregnancy and Birth" which explains everything in great detail about pregnancy and child birth. Today (at 12 1/2 weeks) the baby's heart rate was 165 (at 8 1/2 weeks it was 180), so we are right where we should be :). We go back in two weeks to fill out some paper work, sign up for a tour at the hospital, etc. with the nurse. Our next OB appointment is January 31st and we will be having an ultrasound and finding out the sex of the baby! We highly recommend Northcross OBGYN! We will post again soon!

Christmas is a time for forgiveness

During the Christmas season we often hear sermons at church about "forgiveness" and "letting go of grudges". This Sunday at church our pastor, Dickie Spargo, reminded all of us just how important family and friends truly are. He said "The people sitting around the table with you on Christmas day may never be there again!" That is a scary thought. The thought of losing a loved one through death, divorce, or a long distance move. There is nothing in this world more important to me than family. I love my family, my sisters are my best friends, and family will always be family no matter what. Dickie pointed out that many times the holidays can be difficult for those who have not been able to forgive. Families are separated by hard feelings, anger, hostility, and hurt. Dickie also said that "We forgive, by faith, out of obedience. Since forgiveness goes against our nature, we must forgive by faith, whether we feel like it or not. We must trust God to do the work in us that needs to be done so that the forgiveness will be complete." This is the time of year where we need to remember what is important to us and not let our pride get in the way of doing what is right. I wanted to share all of this with you because the church sermons are very real and can be applied to anyone's life, so I felt the need to share it! Anyways, expect another post on Thursday after our next visit to the OBGYN!

Update

Well the semester is coming to a close and we have our last finals on Thursday. We are all signed up for classes next semester and we have put in our applications for graduation :). We are looking forward to our Christmas break and getting to spend time with our families. Anyways Lindy is almost through the first trimester and has done really well. She has been lucky to not have any morning sickness, though she has "hunger pains" and describes it as "a new kind of hunger." We have decided to change to a different OBGYN. We had two appointments at Mintview OBGYN and we really did not like the atmosphere at all. At our first visit Dr. Rogers was very rude to us and made some comments that were very unprofessional. We thought that maybe she was just having a bad day, but our next visit wasn't any better. She rushed us and did not answer our questions. During the physical exam Dr. Rogers had the door cracked (even thought the exam bed is directly in front of the door). Lindy, in her lovely paper gown did not want to lay down on the exam table until the door was closed, and Dr. Rogers told her "You are being immature. You need to lay down and take responsibility." We both sat there in shock that she said that, and Lindy's only response was "You are not completely naked, wearing a paper gown, in a strange office with the door open." So, needless to say we will not be going back to see her again. We talked to Dr. Kelchner, our PCP and she said we should definitely find a new OB. She said that we need to feel comfortable with the person that is going to deliver our baby, and there was no reason for Dr. Rogers to act that way. If I wanted the door closed during my physical exam she should have closed it without a problem. We are really happy with our PCP...too bad she's not an OB! Anyways, we called our insurance company, CIGNA, and they said that we have POS Open Access, so we can switch OBGYNs anytime we want and we don't need a referral. This is probably the best news we've had all month. We searched around today for a new OB and we have decided on Northcross OBGYN, which is part of CMC. This means we will deliver at CMC Main. We spoke with the staff and they are all very friendly. There are three doctors, all of which are female, and the location is easy to get to. My next appointment at Mintview was scheduled for December 20th, so Northcross kept the date the same for us. Tomorrow we both have dentist appointments with Dr. Weller for teeth cleanings. We were told it is good to schedule a dental appointment during pregnancy, since pregnancy can have negative effects on your teeth. Well, on a different note, we would like to take a vacation before the baby comes, so we thought about going away for spring break. Spring break is the first week of March for us. Kristen and Justin want to fly on a plane, so we have decided wherever we go it needs to be far enough away to fly. Our first choice is San Juan, Puerto Rico and our second choice is Key West. Kristen would like to go to San Juan since she can speak Spanish fluently and she learned about Puerto Rico during her studies at UNCC, so we are more aimed towards it. Anyways, we will post again soon!

We have decided to do a Winnie the Pooh theme for the nursery regardless of sex. Winnie the Pooh offers many of the colors that are supposed to be stimulating to infant development. Also, we can still go with the pink or blue Winnie the Pooh bedding if it is a girl or boy. Winnie the Pooh is easy to find and widely available.
